while this is a relatively small offering, this is really the first time that i've worked so hard on music without any external pressures or deadlines. just me in my room deciding to do it because i want to, or because i have something to express. and working in that way is something i'm really proud of.
obviously living in isolation in Victoria through the longest COVID lockdown in the world, i have all of these emotions, and I want to recognise them and honour their power instead of shutting them down.
this year i came off antidepressants after 3 years, which for me means trusting myself to feel whatever i'm going to feel. but i found that even without the protective meds, this kind of self-trust takes practice. composing these pieces has been part of that practice for me.
track 1 is horror music. it's angry at the government systems. scared and confused, dissociating. 100 dandrews pressers. staring into the dystopian hellscape abyss.
track 2 i made after digging in my garden, digging up old concrete and finding old bottles and rusty tools in the soil from decades ago. finding pleasure in simple work, and getting tired and watching the weather change.
track 3: i spend a lot of apathetic time drifting, detached scrolling, and maybe time slows down when i fall into memories, old friends, and grief and love and longing come up out of nowhere.
